What is the weather in Vietnam by month?
Vietnam is long, and its weather splits into three parts that run on different calendars. The north has a cool, grey winter and a hot, wet summer. The central coast is dry and warm for much of the year, then takes a very heavy rainy season from September or October to December. The south is hot all year and wet from May to October.
So "Vietnam in December" has no single answer: Hanoi is 21°C and grey with 20 mm of rain, Da Nang is 24°C with 331 mm, and Ho Chi Minh City is 31°C with 71 mm. February is the month that works almost everywhere. The grid shows rain and rainy days for five places, month by month; each place links to its own twelve-month guide.

Where is Vietnam driest in winter?
The north is cool and grey rather than wet, and the south is the dry, hot end. The centre is the one to watch: Da Nang is still wet in December and only dries out in February. For the country in January, see Vietnam in January; for the central coast's wet December, Da Nang in December.
What is Vietnam like from March to August?
Spring is the best stretch for the centre: Da Nang and Nha Trang are dry and warm, with 25 to 31 mm of rain in March and April. The north is warming but cloudy. The south is at its hottest in March and April (35°C in Ho Chi Minh City), and the rains return in May.
In summer Hanoi and the south are wet, and Phu Quoc is the wettest of the five, with 372 to 492 mm a month. The central coast is the exception: Da Nang is hot at 33°C to 34°C with 102 to 145 mm, and Nha Trang has 50 to 56 mm. If you want the beach in these months, the central coast is where our data points.
What is Vietnam like from September to November?

Hanoi, by contrast, is at its best in October and November: 185 mm falling to 45 mm, with highs of 28°C and 26°C. The south is still wet until November.

What is a route through the year?
A common circuit follows the dry season around the country: Ho Chi Minh City or Phu Quoc from December to February, then Nha Trang and Da Nang from March to August, then Hanoi in October and November. It keeps you out of the central coast's wet months and the north's cold grey ones. Each place has its own guide:
- Hanoi weather by month
- Da Nang weather by month
- Nha Trang weather by month
- Ho Chi Minh City weather by month
- Phu Quoc weather by month
How sure are these numbers?
They are month-of-year averages for one point in each place, from stored climate data (Open-Meteo archive and CHIRPS rain totals, 2015 to 2025), so any single year can be wetter or drier. Typhoons hit the central coast and north in some years and show up in averages only as extra rain. A rainy day is a day with at least four millimetres of rain, so drizzle is not counted. This is a weather view only: flights, costs and internet quality are not covered.
