What is the weather in Phu Quoc, in one minute?
Phu Quoc sits in the Gulf of Thailand off the south-west tip of Vietnam, and its year splits into two clear halves: dry and warm from December to March, and the monsoon from May to October. Temperature barely moves, with highs between 28° and 31° all year, so the real difference is rain and cloud, not heat. Here is the year:

Read the rain line first: a low stretch from December to March, a step up in April, then a wall of rain from May that peaks in September and is still heavy in October. For one month at a time, the Phu Quoc page is quicker.

When is Phu Quoc dry?
December to March, with a lead-in in November. December has 89 mm, January 57 mm, February 13 mm and March 75 mm. February is the driest and also the clearest, with cloud at about 52 percent against 92 percent in September. Humidity is lowest too, at 75 to 77 percent, which makes the heat easier.
Not every dry month is equal. January is wetter than February, and March is the start of the build-up, with a 31° high and more cloud again. If you want the one safest month, it is February; for a longer window, January to March.
How bad is the wet season?
Bad enough to plan around. May already has 315 mm and cloud at 84 percent. June is 372 mm, July 478 mm, August 492 mm and September 574 mm, with humidity of 86 to 88 percent. October, at 401 mm, is the last of it.
Rain usually comes as heavy bursts and long grey spells, not an afternoon shower, and the sea is rougher: boat trips and island hopping are the first things to be cancelled. Many beach places run down or close for part of the season. If you work indoors with air conditioning it is liveable and quiet, but you pay for the quiet with wet days.
What about the shoulder months, April and November?
April is the hottest month, with a 31° high and a 26° low. Rain is back (176 mm) but not yet the monsoon, and it often arrives in late storms. November is the mirror, at 198 mm and falling, with a 30° high and cloud at 80 percent. Both are fine for a flexible stay; neither is the month to book a boat trip around.
Where should you be when Phu Quoc is wet?
The central Vietnamese coast works the other way round: its wet season is October to December, and its dry, hot months are the months Phu Quoc is wet. Nha Trang gets 330 mm in October, 450 mm in November and 316 mm in December, when Phu Quoc is already drying out. In July and August it is the reverse, with 50 and 56 mm in Nha Trang against 478 and 492 mm on the island.

So there is a circuit: the central coast from about March to August, Phu Quoc from about December to March, and Ho Chi Minh City as the dry, hot base in the middle. For the mainland in winter, compare all three:

Ho Chi Minh City is dry and hot, with 31° to 34° highs. Da Nang is still wet in December (see Da Nang in December), and the country-wide picture is in Vietnam in January. If you are in Hanoi for the winter and want warmth, see Hanoi weather by month, then plan the move south.
Who should come when?
Come in February or March for the island at its best: dry, warm and the sea calm. January and December give the same weather with a little more rain risk. Treat April and November as flexible months. Skip June to September for a first long stay unless rent is the only thing that matters.

How sure are these numbers?
They are month-of-year averages for one point on the island, from stored climate data (Open-Meteo archive and CHIRPS rain totals, 2015 to 2025), so any single year can be wetter or drier, and the north and south of the island can differ. Cloud is the average share of sky covered through the day, not hours of sunshine. Other sites quote different figures because they use different stations and years.
