What is the weather in Da Nang, in one minute?
Da Nang has a dry half and a wet half, and the wet half is in autumn. Here is the year:

Read the rain line first: almost nothing from February to April, a gentle rise to 145 mm in August, then a wall of rain from September (424 mm) to a peak of 883 mm in October. The temperature band runs from 24° in winter to 34° in June. The south of Vietnam runs on a different calendar: Ho Chi Minh City is dry from December to March, but wet in September and October, when Da Nang is at its worst. When are the driest months in Da Nang?
February to April: 25 to 28 mm of rain a month, on about 3 to 6 days. Highs climb from 24° in February to 27° in March and 30° in April, with nights of 20° to 24°. Cloud drops to about 56 percent in March and April, the clearest stretch of the year. Humidity stays high at 84 to 87 percent, so it feels softer than the rain figures suggest.
March is the pick: warm enough for the beach, the rain at its lowest and not yet hot. February is cooler, and the Tet new year usually falls in January or February, when many shops close and prices rise. April is a few degrees warmer and still dry.
Is it too hot in summer, from May to August?
Hot, but workable. Highs are 32° in May and 33° to 34° from June to August, nights 26° to 27°. Rain is modest, 68 to 145 mm a month, falling on about 4 to 9 days. Humidity falls to about 76 percent, the lowest of the year, so it feels less sticky than in winter. If you work from an air-conditioned space and swim in the morning, it is fine, and the sea is warm and, according to Vietnam Tourism, calm. The risk starts when August turns into September.
What about the Sep to Dec rains and typhoons?
This is the part of the year to plan around. Rain falls on about 12 days in September and 18 in October, and still on 16 to 17 days in November and December. Highs fall from 31° in September to 24° in December, so the wet is also cooler and grey: cloud is above 73 percent in every one of these months.
The central coast catches the northeast monsoon against the mountains behind the city, and typhoons can reach it in the wet months. Local tourism guidance names October as the highest-risk month and says November is less frequent. Our monthly averages cannot show individual storms, so from September to November follow the forecast, keep your booking flexible and live above street level. Floods on low roads, power cuts and cancelled transport are the practical risks for a remote worker.
October is the one to avoid for a long stay, and November is nearly as bad. December is past the peak but still wet; our December page says why and where is drier.
When does it dry out again?
January: 100 mm, on about 10 days, a high of 24° and nights of 20°. It is the first month where a laptop day plan holds, but it is still cloudy (74 percent) and humid (86 percent). The Vietnam in January guide compares Da Nang with the rest of the country.
Who should come when?
For a month of work, February to May, with March the best. June to August works if you can handle 33° to 34°. Skip October and November for a long stay, and if you must be there, book the first stretch refundable. For a winter base, Ho Chi Minh City is the dry answer while Da Nang is still wet:

What would we do?
Plan Da Nang for February to August and be somewhere else from September to December. A pattern that matches our numbers: arrive in February or March, stay through May or June, and spend the autumn away, because the south is also wet in September and October. For the Thai side of the same autumn question, our Thailand rainy season guide covers where is dry when Da Nang is not. This is a weather view only; it does not cover flights, the cost of living or internet quality.
How sure are these numbers?
They are month-of-year averages for a single point near the city, from stored climate data (Open-Meteo archive and CHIRPS rain totals, 2015 to 2025), so any single year can be much wetter or drier, especially in October and November. Other sites quote lower rain totals for the wet months. We have not reconciled the difference, so treat our October and November totals as the wet end of the range; the order of the months is the same. A rainy day is a day with at least four millimetres of rain, which matches what rain gauges count.
