What is the weather in Ho Chi Minh City, in one minute?
Ho Chi Minh City, also called Saigon, is hot every month of the year: highs of 31°C to 35°C and nights of 23°C to 26°C. Because the temperature hardly moves, the seasons are about rain. From December to April it is dry, with 71 mm in December falling to 5 mm in February. From May to October it is wet, with 211 mm in May and 248 to 324 mm every month after, and cloud over about 85 percent of the sky. The year:

When is Ho Chi Minh City dry?
December to April: 71 mm in December, 16 mm in January, 5 mm in February, 12 mm in March and 41 mm in April, on 1 to 6 rainy days a month. February is driest and clearest, with cloud near 50 percent against 89 percent in September. Humidity is lowest then too, 64 to 69 percent from January to March, which makes the heat easier to take.
The dry season is also the hot one. Highs reach 35°C in March and April, and April has the warmest nights before the rain, 26°C. If you want dry and a little less heat, the sweet spot is December and January: 31°C to 32°C in the day and 23°C at night.
Is Ho Chi Minh City OK in the rainy season?
Wet enough to plan around, not cold or grim. May already has 211 mm on 17 rainy days. June is 307 mm, July 262 mm, August 248 mm, September 285 mm and October 324 mm, with 21 to 26 rainy days a month and humidity of 85 to 87 percent. Highs ease to 31°C, a few degrees below the dry-season peak. November is the tail: 162 mm and falling.
Our data covers monthly totals, not the time of day the rain falls, so we do not claim a pattern for it. Local reports describe short heavy showers more than all-day rain, and streets can flood after a big one, so check your own street before you sign a lease.
Is Ho Chi Minh City too hot in April and May?
April is the hardest month for heat: a 35°C high, a 26°C night, and the rain that cools things down has barely started (41 mm). May is not much easier. The high is 33°C, nights stay at 26°C, humidity rises to 80 percent and the rain jumps to 211 mm, so the heat turns sticky. Both are workable with good air conditioning; if you can choose, December to February is far more comfortable.
Where should you go when Ho Chi Minh City is wet?
The rest of Vietnam runs on different rains. On the central coast the wet season is October to December: Da Nang gets 883 mm in October and Nha Trang 450 mm in November. In summer it reverses, and Nha Trang has 50 mm in July. Phu Quoc, off the south-west tip, is soaked then. Hanoi is the winter outlier: dry but cool and grey.

So there is a circuit. Ho Chi Minh City is the dry base from December to March, the central coast is best from roughly March to August, and in winter Phu Quoc is dry and calm (see Phu Quoc weather by month). Da Nang is still wet in December: see Da Nang in December, and for the whole country in winter, Vietnam in January. If you are choosing between north and south for the winter, Hanoi weather by month shows why many people head south.
Who should come when?
Come in January or February for the best balance: dry, hot but not at the peak, and clear. December is a good start. March and April are for people who like heat or have air conditioning and a fixed plan. May to October suits a cheaper, quieter stay if you can work indoors. Does Tet affect a stay?
Tet, the Lunar New Year, falls between late January and February, and many shops, restaurants and services close for a few days around it. The dates move each year, so check them before booking a month there.

How sure are these numbers?
They are month-of-year averages for one point in the city, from stored climate data (Open-Meteo archive and CHIRPS rain totals, 2015 to 2025), so any single year can be wetter or drier, and a hard rain in one district may miss another. Cloud is the share of sky covered through the day, not hours of sunshine. A rainy day is a day with at least 4 mm of rain. Other sites quote different numbers because they use different stations and years; we use only these figures.
