What is the weather in Siargao, in one minute?
Siargao has no real dry season. Even its least rainy month, August, has 141 mm on 12 rain days, and April, the month with the fewest rain days, still has 10. What changes is how much falls. Here is the whole year:

Read the rain line: it peaks in December and January, falls through the spring, is lowest in July and August and climbs again from October. The temperature band is nearly flat, 27° to 30° by day and 24° to 25° at night, so the question is never "is it hot", only "how wet, and on how many days". A rain day here is a day with at least 4 mm of rain, the tropical rain-gauge count. For a one-month snapshot see the Siargao destination page.

When is the best time to visit Siargao?
There is no clean answer, and top results disagree: one points to March, one to April and May, another scores February best and January worst. Our numbers give two answers. For the fewest rain days it is April, with 10 of 30 and the clearest skies of the year (cloud about 67 percent). For the least rain it is July and August, with 147 and 141 mm, though cloud is thicker then, 84 to 87 percent. May and September sit in between, with 207 mm and 177 mm.
So we would not call any month dry. If you work from a laptop and want the fewest interruptions, April is the pick, with July and August as the second choice. All sources agree that November to February is the wet stretch.
Is Siargao wet in December and January?
Yes, and this is the trap. December to February is the dry season on much of the Philippines, so plans built on "Philippines in winter" send people here at the wettest time. November is already close, with 484 mm and 20 rain days. December has 666 mm and January 637 mm, with cloud at 79 to 81 percent and humidity near 85 percent.
That does not mean it rains all day. Rain on 19 or 20 days out of 31 means most days have a downpour, often with sun between. For a few days of surfing and swimming that is fine; for a month of remote work it is worth planning around, with a place that has a good roof and a backup for power. If your dates are December to March, the Palawan guide shows the island that is dry then, and where is warm in December lists more.
When are the surf months?
The reef breaks, Cloud 9 included, work best with the Pacific swell, which surf reports put at roughly September to November. We hold no wave or wind data, so we cannot check that. What we can say is what it means for weather: the surf season sits at the start of the wet climb. September has 177 mm and 13 rain days, October 268 mm and 17, and November 484 mm and 20.
If you come for the waves, September and early October give the best mix in our numbers: swell on the way in and rain that has not yet peaked. By November the rain is close to winter levels.
What about typhoons?
Siargao faces the open Pacific, so a storm that tracks this far south reaches it first. Typhoons hit the northern and central Philippines more often than this southern edge, but they do come here: Typhoon Odette (Rai) made landfall on Siargao in December 2021 and did serious damage, with power and phone service cut for a long time.
Our data is monthly averages of rain, not storm tracks, so it cannot say how likely a storm is in a given month. The late-year months, October to December, are the ones where it matters most, and they overlap with the wettest part of the year. If you travel then, check the national weather service forecast before you book and again before you fly, and keep flights and accommodation flexible.
How is Siargao different from Palawan?
Their rain is mostly opposite. Palawan, in the west, is driest from February to April and wettest from June to October; Siargao, facing the Pacific, is wettest from November to January and lightest in July and August. The table puts them side by side in three months:
January, April and August averages, side by side

For a long Philippine stay that suggests a circuit rather than one island: Palawan from January to April, Siargao for July to September. Highs are similar on both, so rain decides.
Which month for which kind of stay?
- Fewest rain days: April.
- Least rain: July and August.
- Surf: September and October in our numbers, with swell timing from other sources.
- Avoid, unless you are there for a reason: November to January for the rain, with typhoon risk on top at the start of that stretch.
What can our data not tell you?
These are monthly averages for one point on the island, not a forecast. They do not include wave height, wind, storm tracks, flights, power or internet quality. Siargao has had outages, and conditions differ between General Luna and the rest of the island, so check the current situation for anything you depend on. Any single year can be much wetter or drier than the average.
How sure are these numbers?
They are month-of-year averages from stored climate data (Open-Meteo archive and CHIRPS rain totals, 2015 to 2025). We convert the stored share of rain days into whole days for each month, so any single year can be wetter or drier.
