Read the chart from the left. The flat run at the start and the end of the year is the dry season, the hump in the middle is the rains, and the two highest points of the temperature band are March and April. When is the cool season in Bangkok?

November to February, and "cool" is relative. Highs are 31° from November to January and 32° in February; nights fall from 24° in November to 22° in December and January. What changes is the air, not the heat: rain drops from 77 mm in November to 9 mm in December, and humidity falls from 74% to about 65% in December and January.

December and January are the best pair: about one rainy day each, the lowest humidity of the year and clear skies. November is a gentle start, with the rains mostly over but about 6 rainy days. February is slightly warmer and still very dry.

How hot does Bangkok get in March and April?

March and April are the hottest months: 34° highs, and nights of 26° to 27°, so the city barely cools after dark. Humidity is about 72%, which is what makes it feel hotter than the number. The first rain arrives in April, 69 mm on about 7 rainy days, often as an afternoon storm that clears the air for an hour.

If you work from an air-conditioned cafe or a coworking space, these months are manageable. In a room without air conditioning, April is the month to avoid.

When are the rains in Bangkok, and are they bad?

May to October. Rain is 169 to 203 mm a month from May to August, then 315 mm in both September and October, with rainy days going from about 12 in May to about 20 in September. Humidity is 76% to 83% and the sky is mostly cloud.

It is not a washout most days: the pattern is a short, heavy shower, often in the afternoon, and then it is dry again. The real problem is September and October, when rain is heaviest and some streets flood. If you can work indoors, June to August are the easiest wet months.

What about the haze?

Bangkok has its own smoke-and-traffic season, and it overlaps the best weather months: the same still, dry air that gives December and January their low rain also traps pollution. Bangkok air quality by month has the monthly numbers from our model, how much they change from one year to the next, and cleaner bases on the coast. For planning, check the air as well as the temperature for October to March. June to September are the clean months, and the cost is the rain.

What would we do?

Pick the month by what bothers you most. If it is rain, come in December to February. If it is heat, come in December or January and avoid March to May. If it is air, check the air page before you book October to March, and consider the coast for those months. Avoid September and October for a first long stay. The pattern that matches our numbers is a Bangkok base from November to January, then the south for the hot months. For the same weeks elsewhere in Thailand, January looks like this:

How sure are these numbers?

They are month-of-year averages for a single point in central Bangkok, from stored climate data (Open-Meteo archive and CHIRPS rain totals, 2015 to 2025), so any one year can be wetter or hotter. Humidity comes from the same archive. A rainy day is a day with at least four millimetres of rain, which matches what rain gauges count. Air quality is modelled separately and is not in these numbers.
