What is the weather in Hua Hin, in one minute?
Hua Hin sits on the western side of the Gulf of Thailand, about 200 km south of Bangkok, and its year has four parts. December to March is dry, with rain on about 2 days of each month. April and May are hot. June to September is a lighter wet season. October is the heavy month. Here is the whole year:

Why is Hua Hin dry in December when Koh Samui is not?
Because the Gulf is not one weather zone. In December Hua Hin gets 19 mm of rain, on about 2 of 31 days. Koh Samui, further south on the same gulf, gets 318 mm, and in November the gap is wider, 133 mm against 457 mm. Bangkok is as dry as Hua Hin in December but hotter and busier, with its own seasons of air pollution.

Hua Hin's rain peaks in October and is mostly over by December, while Samui's wettest stretch runs from October to December, with November the biggest month. That is why a December plan that says "Gulf of Thailand" can mean two very different months, and why the Koh Samui and Koh Phangan guide points to later months for the islands. Our Thailand in December page ranks the places side by side, and the three coasts compared shows where else is dry.
Which months are best for a long stay in Hua Hin?
December, January and February. All three have rain on about 2 days of the month, and highs of 29°C, 30°C and 31°C. January and February each have 32 mm of rain, nothing that spoils a week. March is just as dry (19 mm) but already 33°C, and humidity stays near 70 percent from January to April.
If you want one answer, take January. It has the coolest nights of the dry stretch (22°C), plenty of sun (cloud near 50 percent in our data) and it is nowhere near the heat of April.
How hot does Hua Hin get in April and May?
April is the hottest month: an average high of 34°C and a low of 26°C. Nights stay warm all through April and May, so air conditioning matters if you work from the room. April is still mostly dry, with 46 mm and rain on about 5 of 30 days. May is the turn: the high is still 33°C, but rain jumps to 112 mm on about 12 of 31 days, often as afternoon storms. If heat is your limit, skip April and May.
How wet is the wet season, really?
Less wet than most sites suggest, with one exception. From May to September Hua Hin gets 68 to 120 mm a month, with rain on about 9 to 14 days of the month. That is a lot of showers but not a washout: Bangkok gets 169 to 315 mm in the same months.
The exception is October: 276 mm, on about 15 days. Several pages we read name September and October as the wet pair; in our data September (120 mm) looks more like May (112 mm) than like October. Plan around October, not September.
Cloud cover is the other cost. From May to September the sky is 84 to 93 percent covered, so even on a dry day it is often grey.
Is November a good month for Hua Hin?
Not yet. November is a shoulder month: 133 mm of rain on about 7 of 30 days, a 30°C high and humidity around 76 percent. One top result calls November part of the dry season; in our data it is the tail of the wet one. If your dates are flexible, aim for December.
What would we do?
Take Hua Hin from December to February, with January the pick. Use it from June to September if you can live with showers and grey skies, and avoid October. If you want the islands, wait until February or later.

How sure are these numbers?
They are month-of-year averages for one point at each place, from stored climate data (Open-Meteo archive and CHIRPS rain totals, 2015 to 2025), so any single year can be wetter or drier. Other sites quote different figures because they use different stations and years. Cloud is the average share of sky covered, not hours of sunshine. Rain days are the stored share of days with at least four millimetres (the tropical rule), times the days in the month, rounded to the nearest day.
