What is the weather in Mérida, in one minute?
Mérida is hot all year, and the question is how hot. From December to March it is a very good winter base: sunny, with rain on only 1 to 2 days a month. April and May bring the heat. From June to October it is humid, with heavy afternoon rain. Here is the year; a rainy day is a day with at least four millimetres, the bar we use in the tropics, so a brief shower does not count:

Read the temperature band first: it rises from 28° in January to a peak of 36° in May, and falls back slowly through the wet months. The rain line is flat and low until May, then jumps. For one month at a time, the Mérida page is quicker.

Is December to March the best time to be in Mérida?
For most people, yes. December is 29° by day and 20° at night. January is the coolest month, at 28° and 19°, but also the cloudiest of the dry months (47 percent cloud), so not every day is bright. February is 30° with about 2 rainy days. March is 33° and the driest month, at 19 mm, with the clearest skies of the year. It is warm by afternoon and comfortable in the evening.
If you are choosing one stretch for a winter stay, mid-December to mid-March is the answer, with February as the middle.
When is Mérida too hot?
April and May. The average high is 35° in April and 36° in May, and the average low is 23° and 24°, so the heat does not break overnight. April is still dry (23 mm); May brings the first rain (70 mm) and the start of the humidity. These are averages, so some afternoons are hotter.
If you work from a rental without strong air conditioning, plan to be somewhere else in April and May, or to be indoors from midday. It is why the nomad winter in Mérida usually ends by early April.
When is the rainy season in Mérida?
June to October. The rain mostly arrives as storms in the afternoon or evening, with humidity of 75 to 81 percent. June is the wettest at 192 mm, then September (178 mm) and October (164 mm). July is a slightly lighter break (142 mm, about 5 rainy days). November is a shoulder month with 56 mm and about 3 rainy days, and it is usually already pleasant.
The rain does not mean grey weeks: even in the wettest month, we count about 10 rainy days out of 30. We hold monthly averages, not storm tracks, so we say nothing here about hurricane chances. The Atlantic season officially runs June to November; follow the national forecast if you travel then.
How does Mérida compare with Tulum and Oaxaca?
Mérida is inland on the flat Yucatán plain, so it has no sea breeze. In winter it is almost as warm by day as the coast but cooler at night; from March it is hotter. Side by side in the dry months:

What would we do?
If the dates are fixed, February is the safest month: 30° by day, 20° at night, little rain and no heat to plan around. November and early December are the next best, because the wet season is over and the heat has not yet built. Come from mid-December to mid-March. In those months the weather is rarely the problem: warm days and cooler evenings are good for working outside. It is also the busiest time for visitors, so book ahead for a month's stay. From April the issue is the midday heat, so check that your place has working air conditioning. In the wet months, storms can cut power and internet, so ask your host about a backup.
