Verdict: Medellín wins on warmth, Bogotá on rain. The gap that matters is the night: 16° in Medellín, 8° to 10° in Bogotá.

Is Medellín or Bogotá better for weather?
It depends on whether you count cold or rain as the bigger cost. In our 11-year data Medellín is 25° to 27° by day in every month, with nights between 16° and 17°. Bogotá is 18° to 20° by day, with nights of 8° to 10°. The gap is about six degrees by day and about seven at night, and it is the night that you notice in an unheated flat.
Rain points the other way. Medellín gets 83 mm in its driest month, January, and 243 mm in May. Bogotá gets 45 mm in January and never more than 136 mm (November). Over the year, Bogotá is the drier city by a wide margin, which is not what most "eternal spring" write-ups suggest.

Read the chart as a flat line for temperature and a rain line that rises twice: March to May and September to November. There is no cold season and no hot season, only a wetter and a less wet one.
How cold does Bogotá get, really?
Cold enough to change how you work. Bogotá's daytime high never reaches 21°, and its night low never rises above 10°. The coolest days are in June to July (18°), and the coldest nights, 8° to 9°, fall in January and from July to October. Most long-stay apartments in the city are built without heating, so an evening at the laptop means layers. If you pick Bogotá, check heating or a thick blanket before booking, and bring a proper jacket, not a fleece.
Medellín does not have this problem: its coolest average night is about 16° and its warmest daytime average is 27°. If you dislike both heat and cold, that narrow band is the reason people stay.
How much more does it rain in Medellín?
About twice as much in most months, and the difference is largest in the wet seasons:

In May Medellín gets 243 mm against 105 mm in Bogotá; in October it is 227 mm against 123 mm. Both cities have the same two-peaked pattern, which comes from the same seasonal shift in the tropics, but Medellín's peaks are much higher. A rain day here is a day with at least 4 mm, which is the standard we use in the tropics. Medellín's rain tends to arrive in the afternoon and evening, so mornings are often workable for outdoor plans.
Humidity adds to the feeling. Medellín averages 82 to 89 percent humidity, Bogotá 74 to 83 percent. At 26° that still feels pleasant; at Bogotá's 19° the damp air makes the cold more noticeable.

Which months flip the answer?
Three windows change which city is the better pick, and they are all in our data:
- December to February: Bogotá's best months, with 49, 45 and 75 mm. Medellín is also at its driest (96, 83 and 91 mm), so this is when the two are closest and Medellín's warmth wins most people over.
- March to May: Medellín's wettest stretch (170 to 243 mm a month) and Bogotá's too (105 to 112 mm). Bogotá is wet but about half as wet; choose it only if you can handle the cold.
- July and August: Bogotá is dry again (55 and 62 mm) and Medellín eases (125 and 144 mm). It is the best second window for either city.
The practical point most guides miss is that Bogotá's driest months and Medellín's driest months overlap. If you go in January, both are at their best and the choice is purely warm vs cold. If you go in April, May or October, Medellín is the wetter bet.
Where would we go instead?
If neither suits your month, two escapes are in our data. For a dry, warm winter, Cape Verde gets 4 mm or less a month from December to February, with Dubai at 9 to 18 mm, and our warm places in January guide ranks more. For a Colombian base with more sun than either, look at the Caribbean coast, which has its own dry window from December to March.

What would we do?
For a month of work, we would take Medellín in December to February or July to August, and accept some rain for the steady 26° and warm evenings. We would take Bogotá in December to February or July to August if the rain total matters more than the temperature, and pack for 8° nights. We would avoid both in April, May and October. This is a weather view only: it leaves out altitude effects on sleep, internet quality, safety and cost, so check those before booking.
How sure are these numbers?
They are month-of-year averages over eleven years of satellite-and-station reanalysis data at one point per city, so any single year can be wetter or cooler. Grid data tends to run low on daytime highs against a station thermometer and cannot see the steep valley and hillside microclimates around either city. Rain totals come from CHIRPS and the temperature, humidity and cloud values from Open-Meteo, so they can differ from a local forecast. A rain day is a day with at least four millimetres of rain.
Frequently asked questions
Is Medellín warmer than Bogotá?
Yes, by about six degrees in the day and about seven at night. Medellín runs 25° to 27° by day and about 16° at night; Bogotá runs 18° to 20° by day and 8° to 10° at night.
Which is rainier, Medellín or Bogotá?
Medellín, in every month. Its wettest months are May (243 mm) and October (227 mm); Bogotá peaks at 136 mm in November. Bogotá's driest months, December and January, get 49 and 45 mm.
When is the driest time in Medellín and Bogotá?
December to February in both cities. Medellín gets 96, 83 and 91 mm in those months and Bogotá 49, 45 and 75 mm. Medellín has a second, lighter dip in July and August (125 and 144 mm).
Is Bogotá cold at night?
Yes, 8° to 10° on average in every month. Many apartments have no heating, so a month of evening work there means a jacket indoors.

Not for the heat: a 26° high with a 16° night is comfortable with a window open. The humid months, March to May and October to November, are the ones where the air feels damp.
Which city is better for a month of remote work?
For weather, Medellín if you want steady warmth and accept regular rain, Bogotá if you want fewer wet days and don't mind the cold. See the escape section for the months that flip the answer.
